The main source of Mr. Bharana’s driving spirit rests
in theaters. From the time he left Talakad
to what he is today, he was never away from theaters. This stands as a proof to his love, respect
and belief towards the theater. In early
70’s theaters saw great heights through the pioneers like B. V. Karanth where
Bharana worked in close association with them.
He was a very active member of the theater groups who used to work day
and night arranging the stage and in lighting.
Thus he learned all the dimensions of theater.
He
was active in “BENAKA” (a theater group initiated in 1972) as an actor,
director and also worked backstage around the clock. Be it Gurya’s role in Jokumaraswami or
Sheenya’s in Sattavara Nuralu or Bahagavat’s role in Hayavadana or one man
shows like ‘Ahata’ and ‘Neegikonda Samsa’, all of them led him towards the
perfection in acting. He became a
successful independent play director through the play ‘Baka’. Even
after gaining a lot of acclamation in cinema he never lost his hunger for theater.
He directed ‘Sangya Balya’ for Rangasampada team. It’s true that ‘Sangya Balya’ was played
before but Mr. Bharana have it a new dimension by adding new tunes to the play
songs and by presenting it in a new style.
‘Sangya Balya’ became a success and saw a lot of shows.Total
number of plays in which Mr. Bharana has actively participated as an actor /
director is more than 50. He has enacted in more than 10,000 shows. This shows
his inclination towards theatre. Even
after the demise of B. V. Karanth, BENAKA is performing the plays directed by
him. This shows Mr. Bharana’s
wholehearted respect towards him. State
Government of Karnataka has recognized his contribution to the theater and has
awarded him with ‘Rajyotsava
Award’ and also ‘Nataka Academy Award’.
He
was the founder president of BENAKA (Bengaluru Nagarakalavidaru), which
celebrated its Golden Jubilee recently, a theatre institution that was
co-founder by B V Karanth, Dr. Chandrashekhara Kambara and Gireeshkarnad in
1972.
He
is also the founder president of Benakamakkala Nataka Kendra and
Mrs.Premakaranth was the secretary of the same.
He has worked as an actor, director and a theatre designer.
